Houses of Parliament

* Parliament is divided into 2 houses: the House of Commons, and the House of Lords.  Members of the House of Commons are elected, while members of the House of Lords are not elected - their position is determined by heredity or they are nominated).

* Both houses meet in the Palace of Westminster (pictured above), which was officially opened in 1852, but not fully finished until 1870.  It was rebuilt after the original palace (from back in the day of Edward the Confessor - the mid 1000s) burnt down in 1834.

* The Palace of Westminster is built in the traditional Gothic style, with ornate decorations easily visible from the outside.
