* Big Ben is likely one of the world's most famous and most easily recognizable clocks.

 

* Big Ben is 320 feet tall, and the face of each clock is over 23 feet in diameter.

 

*  Big Ben is actually the name of the largest bell inside, which was cast in 1858 by the Whitechapel Bell Foundry.  The metal took 20 days to solidify and cool, and the bell weighs over 13 tons.

 

* To keep the clock accurate to the nearest second, it is counterweighted with old pennies.
